EU provides aid to earthquake victims

HERAT (Khaama Press): The European Union has taken a significant step to aid earthquake-affected families in Herat, with a humanitarian flight touching down, carrying 92 tons of essential supplies.

Among the aid supplies, the EU contributed 57 tons of blankets and winterization kits, all from their stockpile in Dubai.

The World Health Organization received 20 tons of much-needed medicines, while the World Food Program (WFP) received 15 tons of food as part of this relief effort.

The EU is not stopping here; they plan two more flights to Herat and Kabul from Brindisi and Dubai. These flights will collect contributions from Ireland, Italy, and EU Humanitarian Partners. France is also playing its part by bolstering the transport and warehousing capabilities to ensure efficient distribution of aid, the EU said.
Following the initial earthquake in Afghanistan on October 7th, the EU swiftly approved a humanitarian aid package. This package included 2.5 million euros in funding for humanitarian organizations.

Additionally, the EU offered in-kind assistance from its Emergency Response Coordination Center (EHRC) stocks.

Considering the planned flights and the support provided, the EU’s total response to the earthquake amounts to 4.5 million euros.

This concerted effort demonstrates the EU’s commitment to assisting those affected by natural disasters and crises.
