Fazl calls grand tribal jirga on 27th

F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has convened a Grand Tribal Jirga in Peshawar on June 27 to discuss the prevailing situation in the country’s tribal areas.

Religious and political personalities from these areas will attend the huddle which Maulana Fazl will also address. The grand Jirga has been called in the wake of rising lawlessness in the tribal belt.

The JUI-F chief had yesterday strongly condemned the killing of Maulana Mirza Jan, the Khatib of Jamia Masjid Wana and District Amir of JUI-F South Waziristan, who had been shot and injured by unidentified assailants just two days before Eidal Adha while he was riding a motorcycle. Despite receiving medical treatment at CMH Peshawar, he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident came shortly after another local leader of JUI, Deen Saeed, was martyred by unknown persons in the Surrey Khawra area. On Tuesday, Khalil Jibran, a senior journalist from Landi Kotal, had been gunned down which further pointed towards the gravity of the situation.

Maulana Fazl, while expressing deep sorrow, over Maulana Mirza Jan’s martyrdom, condemned the rising insecurity and targeted killings in the country’s tribal areas. “Maulana Mirza Jan’s martyrdom is a stain on the government’s performance,” the JUI-F chief said, and urged the authorities to expose the perpetrators behind the attack and bring them to justice.
