FO briefs foreign envoys on Pulwama attack investigation

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office of Pakistan has briefed foreign diplomats in Islamabad on Thursday capital on the initial report of the investigation into the Pulawama attack.

According to details, at least 44 Indian paramilitary soldiers were killed in occupied Kashmir in the Pulwama attack.

The attorney general of Pakistan, foreign secretary, interior secretary and director general Federal Investigation Agency were also present during the briefing to foreign diplomats.

The diplomatic corps was informed that the Indian side had shared a paper on February 27, 2019. Soon after its receipt, Pakistan constituted an investigation team, detained a number of persons for investigations and initiated work on the technical aspects of social media content, the main basis of Indian Paper, it was said during the briefing.

The 91-page Indian document had six parts of which Part 2 and 3 pertained to the Pulwama attack and the rest were about routine allegations, it was said during the briefing.

The diplomatic corps was further informed that during the course of investigations, all aspects of the information provided by India was thoroughly examined. The attacker, Adil Dar’s video statement was also reviewed, it was further said.

The diplomatic corps was informed that 54 detained individuals are being investigated. However, no details linking them to Pulwama have been found so far.

Similarly, the 22 pin locations shared by India have been examined. No such camps exist. Pakistan is willing to allow visits, on request, to these locations, it added.

It said additional information and documents would be required from India to continue the process of investigations. Service providers have been requested for data including relevant details of activities and contacts of the GSM number provided by India, the diplomatic corps was told

A request for assistance from Whatsapp has also been made to the US government, according to Radio Pakistan.

Further, the Foreign Office expressed commitment to take the process of investigation into the Pulwama attack to its logical conclusion.
