KABUL (Amu tv): The Ghulam Khan border crossing between Afghanistan and Pakistan, a key commercial route that had been closed to freight vehicles for over two weeks, has been reopened, according to local sources.
The crossing, located in southeastern Afghanistan’s Khost Province, resumed operations for cargo trucks on Wednesday, July 16, following a 15-day closure by Pakistani authorities. No official explanation had been provided for the initial shutdown.
Traders and residents in the area welcomed the reopening, saying the closure had disrupted cross-border commerce and caused significant logistical delays.
“Many businesses were struggling. Goods were stuck, and prices rose,” said one local merchant who spoke on condition of anonymity. “This reopening brings some relief.”
While Pakistani officials have not publicly commented on the reopening, Abdulllah Farooqi, a spokesperson for the Taliban’s border police, confirmed the resumption of operations at the Ghulam Khan crossing.
Ghulam Khan is one of the most strategically significant border points for trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Located roughly 1,200 kilometers from Pakistan’s port city of Karachi, it is considered a critical and cost-effective route for transporting Afghan goods to international markets.
