Governor Punjab accepts Buzdar’s resignation

F.P. Report

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Friday accepted Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar’s resignation and summoned the provincial assembly session tomorrow (Saturday).

Outgoing chief minister Buzdar called on Governor Sarwar. The governor invited the chief minister to complete the legal procedure of confirmation of the resignation by him. After the confirmation of resignation by Buzdar, the legal process was completed and the governor put his signatures on his resignation.

Governor Sarwar formally sought permission from Prime Minister Imran Khan before issuing notification of the acceptance of chief minister’s resignation.

The governor also summoned Punjab Assembly session on April 2 (tomorrow) apparently in order to hold election of the new chief minister of the province.

The governor received Buzdar’s resignation two days ago. But the chief minister tendered his resignation four days ago on March 28 to Prime Minister Imran Khan when the latter nominated PML-Q leader and Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi for the slot of Punjab chief ministership.

The joint opposition also submitted a no-trust motion against Buzdar to the Punjab Assembly on the same day.

The beleaguered Prime Minister Imran Khan was under immense pressure to remove Buzdar as both his allies – PML-Q and Tareen group – were adamant in their demand to change the chief minister.

In 2018, Usman Buzdar had become the Punjab chief minister after 186 MPAs voted for him.

After his nomination for the slot of Punjab chef minitership, Pervaiz Elahi has become active and is holding meetings with members of PTI’s disgruntled group – JKT and Chheena group.

The total strength of PML-N and PPP in the Punjab Assembly stands at 172.

Meanwhile, the provincial ministers have also started to pack up their things in Ministers Block. Their staff has started dispatching official record of the ministries to the concerned departments. The bulk of official record consists of people’s applications.

Besides this, the staff is also sending notes and summaries sent to the provincial ministers to the concerned departments. The fax machines and printers which were being used in ministers’ offices, these were sent back to the government offices.
