India defeat Pakistan on shootout to win 5s Asia Hockey Cup

ISLAMABAD: India Saturday defeated Pakistan in a thrilling final of 5s Asia Hockey Cup o penalty shoot-outs to claim the title of the event.

Pakistan hockey team won the silver medal. Pakistan captain Rana Abdulwaheed Ashraf scored 27 goals and became the top scorer of the event, while Pakistan’s goalkeeper Abdullah Ishtiaq Khan was awarded the best goalkeeper award. The final of the ongoing five-aside Asia Cup in Salalah, Oman was played between two traditional rivals, Pakistan and India, which was tied 4-4 at the scheduled time.

For Pakistan, Arshad Liaquat and Murtaza Yaqoob went for penalty shootout. In the first penalty shootout, Arshad managed to get a penalty stroke on the foul of the opposing goalkeeper. However, Murtaza Yaqoob failed to score the goal on penalty stroke.

Murtaza scored the goal on shootout on his turn but was not given for shielding the opposing goalkeeper. For Pakistan, Rana Waheed Ashraf, Arshad Liaquat, Zakaria Hayat and Abdul Rahman scored goals in the allotted time. For India, Jugraj Singh, Maninder Singh scored one goal each while Mohammad Raheel scored two goals.
Gurjot Singh and Maninder Singh scored goals for India in the penalty shoot-outs. (NNI)
