Info Minister highlights role of journalism

PESHAWAR: Caretaker Information and Public Relations Minister, Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel here Thursday highlighted pivotal role of journalism in mitigating adverse effects of social media emphasizing the importance of ethical reporting during addressing a gathering of journalists at a Press Club function.

The successful completion of the Peshawar Press Club solarization project marked a crucial achievement for journalists in the province, he said. Initiated during the caretaker government, the project garnered special attention from the late Muhammad Azam Khan, the former caretaker chief minister.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice (R) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, the project was swiftly concluded, which will help save expenditures for the Press Club, he said.

He affirmed the indispensable relationship between Department of Information and Public Relations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Press Club, likening them to the essential components of a vehicle.

He said that efforts are underway to further strengthen press clubs and support unemployed journalists through the Journalists Welfare Endowment Fund.
Expressing concern over the negative impact of social media, Minister Kakakhel urged the tightening of regulations to curb irresponsible use.

Referring to incidents such as the Kohistan incident, he stressed the need for responsible journalism as a crucial antidote to the harmful effects of social media on societal values.

During the visit to the Press Club, Minister Kakakhel inspected the embellishments made in the facility, underscoring the commitment to providing journalists with a conducive and efficient working environment.

He was accompanied by Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, Secretary Information Syed Abdul Jabbar Shah, DG Information and Public Relations Muhammad Imran Khan, Press Club President Arshad Aziz Malik, senior journalist M Riaz, and other dignitaries.
