Islamabad situation: Rangers take forward positions at on Faizabad interchange as protests continue

ISLAMABAD: The Rangers have taken forward positions around Faizabad inter-change on Sunday as protests continue in the capital after the yesterday crackdown with the aim disperse them.

A private news channel reported that security arrangements of the operation have now been handed over to the Rangers and ordered them to keep writ of the government and disperse the protestors. The operation which was initiated on Saturday against the protestors to disperse them and vacate the road which they blocked from the past three weeks but later the operation was suspended around 2.30 PM.

The protestors again started the violence on early Sunday as they pelted stones on Policemen and set fire to five motorcycles and car of police near I-8 sector. The law and order situation remains tense in the capital as the protest continue at Faizabad Interchange, I-8 Markaz and other areas.

The roads of the capital including Express Highway, IJP Road and the motorway leading to Lahore remained closed for traffic.

On Saturday, a protester was killed while over 250 people including 90 policemen and FC personnel, as protests, took a violent turn in the capital. Around 8,000 security officials took part in the operation aimed at dispersing the protesters with the help of tear gas and water cannons.
