LAHORE: Wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal will not be retained by Peshawar Zalmi for the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight.
he 40-year-old has represented Zalmi since the inception of the PSL and has been a core member of the side. The second highest-run getter of the league announced that he will be going into the draft, expected to take place on November 18.
“I am not part of Peshawar Zalmi anymore. Head Coach Daren Sammy told me Peshawar Zalmi will not retain me for PSL 8. I will be available for selection in the draft. Let’s see which franchise picks me,” Kamran said.
On Twitter, Kamran thanked Zalmi for supporting him throughout. He thanked owner Javed Afridi, Daren Sammy, Mohammad Akram and Wahab Riaz. Kamran was dejected after he was picked by the franchise in the silver category last year. He announced not to play for Zalmi but after being offered player-cum mentor role, he played for them in the PSL 7.
It must be noted that Kamran is the league’s second highest-run getter with 1972 runs in 74 innings. He has scored three centuries, the most by any batter in the league.
