Man killed during protest against rape, murder of 6-year old

KARACHI: A man was killed by police and two other severely wounded when protests broke out against the alleged rape and murder of a six years old girl in Manghpir area of the city.

When the protestors took to road near Katti Pahari, police resorted to straight firing as result a man was killed. The protestors had gather to stage agitigation against the murder of 6 years old Rabia who was resident of the Baloch Para in Orangi town.

According to Abid Baloch, SP West, Rabia, who had gone missing on Sunday, was found dead in bushes in Manghopir on Monday night. “She was later identified on Tuesday as a resident of Baloch Goth, Orangi Town, police informed”, Baloch informed.

According to the initial medico-legal report the girl was sexually assaulted and the killed. DNA samples, that were taken to confirm the findings, will be send for lobaority for confirmation.

Relatives and dwellers of the locality placed the body of the deceased girl on Orangi Road to record protest, however, they took the body back to their home after the protest turned violent. According to a police official at Manghopir police station the victim’s father visited the police station at 9pm on Monday regarding his daughter’s disappearance.

A man who was injured allegedly by police firing later died after being taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), said Dr Seemi Jamali told The Frontier Post, adding the deceased was identified as Abdur Rehman.

Besides, 10 police personnel, including a deputy superintendent police (DSP) and two station house officers (SHO), were also injured in the incident.

The girl was later laid to rest in MPR Colony graveyard. Rangers Sector Commander Brig Naseem, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) West Amir Farooqui and others were also present at the time of burial.

Earlier, Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal had also made similar allegations.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MPA Khurram Sher Zaman claimed that the deceased protester was a PTI worker who was killed as a result of police’s straight firing on peaceful protesters.

Taking notice of the incident, Inspector General (IG) Sindh A.D. Khowaja ordered DIG Admin Asim Kaimkhani to hold a transparent and unbiased inquiry into the matter.

SSP West Omar Shahid Hamid told The Frontier Post that three suspects have been nomintaed in the case on the compainent of the girl’s grandfather.

Meanwhile, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has strongly condemned rape and murder of a six years old girl in Karachi’s Manghopir area and asked Sindh government for stern action against the culprits involved in this barbaric act.

In a statement, the PPP Chairman said that tormentors and killers of Rabia won’t be allowed to flee from the iron-clutches of law and urged that they must be severely punished as per law.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed sympathies with the parents of the victim and assured them that PPP government will take every step to provide justice to them.
