Massive fire at cosmetics factory in Iran injures 53: State media

TEHRAN (Reuters): Fifty-three people were injured in a huge fire and subsequent blast at a cosmetics factory in the Iranian city of Karaj, near the capital Tehran, Iran’s state media reported on Tuesday.

The blast was caused by a gas leak in parts of the production line, state media said.

Two explosions in Iran last week killed nearly 100 people and wounded scores at a ceremony to commemorate Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Qassem Soleimani who was killed by a US drone in 2020.

The incident on Tuesday took place at an industrial complex in Karaj, about 40 km west of Tehran in Iran’s Alborz province. People injured in the incident were hospitalized and some of them were in a critical condition, state media added.
