Militants and Bajaur tribals fail to get consensus in aman jirga

F.P. Report

BAJAUR: Members of the tribal Jirga in Bajaur have decided to hold negotiations with the militants again as the first round of talks between them remained unproductive.

The Jirga members said on Sunday that they wanted to make efforts to find a way out of the present lawlessness in the area.

They added that the ceasefire would hold until evening, and there would be another meeting tomorrow.

The second round of talks between a 50-member Bajaur Amn (peace) jirga and local terrorist leaders aimed at convincing them to leave the region ended in the Lowi Mamund tehsil on Saturday.

The terrorists had requested a day’s time at the Friday meeting to consult their leadership over the jirga’s two-point demands – either to return to Afghanistan or retreat to the mountains if they wanted to fight the security forces, as their presence posed a serious threat to locals.
