Modi’s war rhetoric

It appears that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to continue his policy of bullying the neighboring countries by making claims of India’s military strength. He is obsessed with imaginary fear from Pakistan and wants to keep the tension high on the line of control. In a speech to military personnel in New Delhi the other day, Narendra Modi boasted that Indian forces were capable to make Pakistan bite the dust in less than 10 days. As usual, he raised the bogey of cross-border terrorism, accusing Pakistan of supporting militancy in the Indian held Kashmir, which is a home grown freedom struggle.

This sort of browbeating by the BJP leadership reminds the remark made by a former foreign service career diplomat Zafar Hilali in a current affairs programme on a private TV channel when Modi had been elected Prime Minister for the first time when former Prime Minister Nsawaz Sharif seemed infatuated with his style of leadership, attaching greater expectations about normalization of Pak-India relations. Zafar Hilai had cautioned Pakistani overoptimistic ruling leadership that they should not be under any illusion about the aggressive designs of new BJP leadership against Pakistan.

The threatening speech of Indian Prime Minister invited a strong reaction from the Foreign Office, describing it reflective of India’s incurable obsession with Pakistan. International community has been urged to take cognizance of current ruling Indian leadership belligerency and aggressive designs, which pose threat to regional peace and stability.

The racist BJP leadership has adopted a three-pronged strategy for the implementation of Hunduvta ideology of high caste Hindus. Special Constitutional status of Kashmir was abolished on August 5, last year. Since then this state is under complete lockdown. A plan of ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Muslims has been announced in the shape settling Hindus from other parts of India by establishing  settlements for them in the valley on the pattern of Jewish settlements established by Israel in the areas of Palestinian authority government. The drum of Pakistan’s support of militancy in Kashmir is being beaten to oversell the cliché anti-Pakistan narrative, which no longer the international community is willing to buy after the PTI government proactive and sustained diplomacy. A controversial Citizens Amendment Act (CAA) was passed and enforced to marganilise 200 million Muslims.

Modi is now feeling the heat of wide spread protest against this draconian law launched by Indian Muslims and other minorities, sliding economy and BJP recent losses in state elections. West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamta Benarjee had led a number of protest rallies condemning BJP for destroying the cohesive and pluralistic fabric of Indian society.  There are indications that BJP may lose elections in New Delhi, which are scheduled for the next month. The states wherein opposition parties are in power the implementation of Muslims specific discriminatory law is being resisted by governments. Kerala was the first Indian state that passed a resolution against bringing the CAA on the statute book of India. Similar resolutions were passed by the state’s legislatures in Chatisgarh, Punjab and Rajistan. The governments of Kerala and Chatisgarh have already challenged the CAA in the Indian Supreme Court to declare it unconstitutional and being infringing upon the right of state legislatures. However, the Supreme Court has not stayed the operation of this Union Law, which points to the institutionalization of hate for Muslims by the BJP government.

The protest against the high caste Hindus supremacy regimenting law is not confined to India alone. Indian nationals have also held rallies against it in the United States and the UK. European Union Parliament has taken up this divisive law for discussion and taking vote on it. A joint resolution has been tabled by five political groups that deeply regrets the adoption of CAA and calls on the Indian government to repeal this legislation. Prospects of passage of the resolution in the European Union Parliament are bright as it has the support of 560-626 members out of the total membership of 751 Hence, Pakistan rightly cautions the international community against the possibility of misadventure by India on the Line of Control.
