KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) is prioritising solutions to Kabul’s worsening water crisis, as Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar held talks with a private company on a Panjshir water transfer plan.
The project, stretching around 200 kilometres from Bazarak in Panjshir to Tarakhel in Kabul, is expected to resolve water shortages for some two million residents.
Baradar met officials of the Katawazi Group in Kabul on Thursday, his office said on its X handle.
He underlined that the IEA was fully aware of the capital’s water challenges and was making serious and fundamental efforts to address them.
For their part, representatives of the Katawazi Group expressed readiness to invest in the project, pledging to meet all standards and requirements.
They added that, once the necessary information and documents were received from the Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW), their technical teams would be deployed to the field and complete the survey and design within two weeks.
Baradar also instructed MoEW officials to provide the company with the available project information and documents, and to engage with them on the technical, financial and implementation aspects.
He assured the company of his cooperation and called on both MoEW and the Katawazi Group to share their report with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs within two weeks.
