PARIS: Brazilian star Neymar Jr. is on track to recover in time for the World Cup 2018 in Russia. The doctor of the Paris Saint Germain striker reported on Saturday.

Neymar will be back in action by this summer’s World Cup and he is working hard to recover from the foot injury that sidelined him in February, said the doctor of the Brazil national side.

Neymar underwent a surgery by the Brazillian team doctor on March 3 and since then has found himself in a race against time to play in the anticipated FIFA World Cup. “He is working hard and the expectation is that he will arrive well-prepared so he can take part in excellent World Cup training,”team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar said.

Last week Neymar said that he will not return to the football pitch till May 17, which is the estimated date of his return from injury. PSG’s last game will be played on 19th May against Ligue 1 outfit Caen, which means he will not take part in the French Ligue and his season is done and dusted. But he remains on track to return for the lucrative world cup competition which starts from 14 June to 15th July.

The world’s most expensive midfielder Neymar Junior will take part in the six-day training camp of Brazil, from May 21 to May 27 in Teresopolis.

However, Lasmar acknowledged that Neymar’s time off the pitch means he’ll at first need a tailored fitness program in the run-up to the World Cup. “We need to improve his physical fitness because it has probably decreased. Players recovering from injury deserve individual evaluation to design the best strategy for them,” Lasmar said.

The Brazillian Maestro will look to win the world cup this time around and etch his name among legendary footballers like Pelle, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo who have won the prestigious trophy.
