India started its struggle to attain Nuclear weapon during 1960s and conducted first nuclear bomb test in 1974. After separation of East Pakistan in 1971, Pakistan decided to achieve atomic capability to protect its form Indian aggression.

Prime Minster Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto called a meeting of Scientists and Engineers in Multan in 1972 and instructed them to make atomic bomb at any cost. After some time, Pakistan also started its endeavors for space research and technology by establishment of Space and Atmosphere Research Commission (SPARCO) in 1961. Later in 1985, Pakistan established Combat Development Directorate to work on Ballistic missile technology and eventually succeeded in building Hatif, Badr, Gouri and Shaheen missile series. Pakistan attained complete competence in liquid (Gouri) and solid fueled (Shaheen) missile technologies with cent percent accuracy in achieving its intended target.

All these successes are due to untiring efforts of our Scientists, Engineers and Armed Forces engaged in this arena of national defense. Despite having these proved credible deterrence, Pakistan had always sort to preserve peace and stability in the region. Pakistan’s desire for peace has been articulated by Country’s top leadership time and again as COAS has expressed in his address at Pakistan Air Force Academy Risalpur on 2nd February this year.
