Pakistan records 81 more coronavirus deaths in a day

ISLAMABAD: Another 81 people died and 4,856 were infected by the coronavirus throughout Pakistan during the last 24 hours (Tuesday), showed the data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday morning.

As per the NCOC figures, after the addition of 81 new deaths the overall toll has now surged to 24,085 whereas the number of total infections now stood at 1,080,360 after adding the fresh 4,856.

During the last 24 hours (Tuesday), a total of 64,690 tests were conducted throughout Pakistan whereas the positivity ratio stood at 7.50 percent.

During the last 24 hours (Tuesday), as many as 5,025 patients have recovered from the virus whereas the total recoveries stood at 972,098. As of Wednesday, the total count of active cases in the country was recorded at 84,177.

As many as 403,964 coronavirus cases have so far been confirmed in Sindh, 367,054 in Punjab, 149,532 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 91,672 in Islamabad, 31,298 in Balochistan, 27,899 in Azad Kashmir and 8,941 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Moreover, 11,256 individuals have lost their lives to the pandemic in Punjab so far, 6,275 in Sindh, 4,588 in KP, 822 in Islamabad, 654 in Azad Kashmir, 332 in Balochistan and 158 in Gilgit Baltistan.

The US is the worst-affected country with 617,321 deaths, followed by Brazil with 563,562, India with 428,682, Mexico with 244,690 and Peru with 197,029.
