PDM top leadership vows to get to the bottom of Senate defeat

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The Big Three of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) established contact on Saturday and vowed to get to the roots of the defeat of the Movement’s candidate – Yousaf Raza Gilani – in the election for the Senate chairman.

PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif and JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman pondered over the setback in the Senate elections. Asif Ali Zardari was of the view that if the PPP senators have deliberately spoiled their votes then strict action should be taken against them.

According to sources, the PML-N Quaid said the establishment was behind the whole crisis.

The PML-N leader suggested that the phone data of those senators who received anonymous calls from unknown numbers and of those who had met with any government personality or the candidate must be checked.

The PDM bigwigs agreed to probe those members of the Opposition who have close links with Sadiq Sanjrani.

According to the sources, the coming PDM summit meeting will take up the issues of “suspicious” senators.

Maulana Fazl wondered the votes rejected during the election for the Senate chairman were later polled in favour of the government candidate in the election for the deputy chairman.

According to the sources, five of the eight senators whose votes were rejected belonged to a major party while the three others belonged to a smaller party.
