PM wants to sabotage PAC, Khurshid alleges

ISLAMABAD: Public Accounts Committee has strongly protested and annoyed  with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for preventing federal  secretary finance  from appearing in PAC meeting where he  was summoned to  answer s for  releasing  of Rs 3.9 billion to Captain (R) Safdar without taking the parliament into confidence.

Public Accounts Committee chairman Syed Khurshid Shah alleged that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi wanted to sabotage PAC and vowed to discourage each  ill designed efforts to debilitate parliamentary committee on public accounts.Syed Khurshid Shah alleged in his outburst against incumbent government that Prime Minister did not   want come on fore  the corruption scams  of the government worth billion rupees and for that reason PM has not allowed his secretary finance to attend PAC meeting which was convened to discuss the government generosity for son of law of former ousted  Prime minster Nawaz Sharif. With the consent of ruling political party member of PAC , Syed Khurshid shah has directed PAC secretariat to write a letter to PM to  seek his explanation for not allowing finance secretary to attend the meeting in which he was directed to satisfy the member for releasing whopping sum of public money to Maryam Nawaz husband.

The issue of Rs 3.9billion disbursement to Captain Safdar on name of development schemes in his constituency NA 21 Mensehra was taken up in  the last meeting of PAC and it was decided to summon finance secretary to seek  his explanation why such big amounts had been release while breaching the government financial rules and  procedure.In the meeting the secretary for housing and works Mr Babar Bharwana submitted details of the funds and admitted that NAB has investigation against the government officials and the responsible people would face the music if the charges against them  will be  proved.

An  extraordinary meeting of Public Accounts Committee was held here in parliament house with Syed Khurshid Shah in the chair to discuss audit objection of ministry of housing and works and defense production.On the outset of the meeting additional secretary PAC told the meeting that finance secretary has  informed that Prime Minister has summoned him to his office when he was on his way to attend the meeting, resulting in    he would be not available to reply the questions of PAC member regarding Rs 3.9billion disbursement to captain safdar whose father in law Nawaz Sharif was deseated on corruption and perjury charges .Federal secretary housing Babar Bharwana turned up to the meeting to answer the audit objections  worth billion rupees but the audit paras of his ministry could not  be  taken  up due to the  absence of  finance secretary from the meeting.

PAC  members unanimously agreed that  the expenditure incurred on the  convening of the meeting wil be charge from the personal   accounts of Prime Minister and finance secretary .When audit objections  of defense production ministry were taken up then  the audit officer told the  meeting that former ousted prime minister Nawaz Shrif sanctioned RS 773 million to purchase  an aero plane for personal use and heavy amount was spent on the training program for its pilots.

The meeting was informed that five year back latest technology to diagnose Cancer disease was purchase from Germony , Switzerland and England but the machinery has yet to reach Pakistan after  passing such huge time.

PAC Members grilled  senior hierarchy of defense production ministry for their  failure to import cancer related machinay from abroad and quipped that the spare part which may installed in the hospitals may get rusted and directed them to bring the machinery so that the patients can get benefit.
