PPC United off to a flying start; beat Gladiators by 3 runs

PESHAWAR: PPC United kept their nerves to snatch the victory from the jaws of PPC Gladiators in the ongoing 3rd RMI Media Cricket League.

Gladiators chasing 93 runs target in 10 overs managed to score 90 runs thanks to some disciplined bowling by United Captain Bilal and their start all-rounder Qari Zia ul Islam.

Batting first PPC United scored 93 runs for the loss of five wickets. Opener Shah Faisal hit four sixes and two fours to score 41 runs of just 20 balls. Ali Sheikh scored 13 runs. With 47 for no loss in first five overs, United looked to score big but they kept on losing wickets on regular intervals with Niaz Ali bowled brilliant to take three wickets in 3 overs for just 20 runs. Qari Ziaul Islam score 12 runs off six balls as United finished their innings with 93 runs on the board.

In reply, Gladiators lost their first wicket on the third ball of their innings when Younas was caught behind on the balling of Bilal Afridi for duck. Gladiator were 6 for two when Jamal and Raham played some brilliant shots to put their team in the winning position. But in the 6th over when the score was 55 Raham was caught on the balling of Kamran.

Both Bilal Afridi (3 for 20) and Qari Zia ul Islam (2 for 23) bowling brilliantly to stop the Gladiators scoring rate. With 19 required in the last over Wisal Yousafzai kept his nerves cool and Gladiators come just 3 runs short of the required target. Shah Faisal was adjudged man-of-the-match for his brilliant batting.

Earlier in the first match of the day, PPC Dolphins outclass PPC Darwesh by 8 wickets thanks to some outstanding batting display by Aftab Ahmad (24* off just 21 balls), Muhammad Israr (28 off just 14 balls) and Asif Raza (18*). Chasing a meager target of 74 runs, Dolphins reached the target in 8.4 overs.
