Protest against killing of Asma held

LAKKI MARWAT: Activists of political and religious organizations held a protest demonstration in Naurang town on Tuesday against the killing of a medical student Asma Rani in Kohat on Jan 28. The traders also kept their shops and business outlets closed and took part in the demonstration.

The third year student of Ayub Medical College Abbotabad Asma Rani was murdered in Kohat on refusal of her parents to give her hand to the alleged killer Mujahidullah Afridi. She was buried in Dheri graveyard near Naurang town (Lakki Marwat) on Monday.

The murderer Mujahid Afridi fled Saudi Arabia while his brother Sadiqullah Afridi also nominated in FIR has been arrested by police. In Naurang town the protesters came on roads and partially blocked the Bannu-DI Khan portion of grand trunk road against the killing of female student. They carried banners and placards inscribed with demands of hanging the killers in public and prompt provision of justice to the family of killed medical student.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s special assistant for transport Malik Shah Muhammad Khan Wazir, JUI-F MPA Haji Anwar Hayat Khan, Lakki and Naurang tehsil nazim Maulana Ezazullah and Haji Hidayatullah Khan, Haji Azizullah of Jamat-e-Islami, district councilor engineer Haji Ameer Nawaz, tehsil councilor Malik Ihsanullah, Mufti Ziaullah, Maulana Bashir Ahmad Haqqani and Maulana Ibrahim Adhmi of JUI-F and Mamraiz Khan of Awami National Party spoke on the occasion. A large contingent of police was also present to control law and order situation and avert happening of any untoward incident.

Speakers strongly condemned the killing of Asma Rani and criticized police for its failure to arrest the killer identified by the deceased student in her dying statement. They said that the fleeing of Asma’s killer Mujahid Afridi to Saudi Arabia had exposed the performance of police therefore they were justified to request chief of army staff to ensure arrest of the murderer.

“The brutal killing of female student has hurt the Marwat people to the extent that we cannot describe it in words”, said MPA Anwar Hayat, regretting that after committing the murder of innocent student the killer escaped throwing dust into the eyes of police. He said that the residents of Lakki Marwat district should not pin any hope from police regarding arrest of the killer, demanding of Chief of Army Staff to play his role to bring back Mujahid Afridi from Saudi Arabia and provide speedy justice to the bereaved family.

The chief minister’s special assistant Shah Muhammad Wazir also condemned the murder of female student and assured that provincial government would leave no stone unturned to bring the killers to justice. Other speakers demanded of the government to compensate the family of Asma under Shuhada package and accelerate efforts to take her killers to task. They made clear that they would expand the sphere of agitation if they realized that police were using delaying tactics to arrest the killers of female medical student.
