Provision of training on zigzag: PHC orders to adopt tech within month

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court (PHC) ordered trained owners of brick-kilns to adopted Zigzag technology within one month while directed Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to submit report on training, on Thursday.

During hearing Deputy Director EPA Mumtaz Khan and Additional Advocate General Syed Sikandar Hayat Shah along with counsel for petitioners appeared before divisional bench of PHC in petition regarding brick-kilns and its environmental impacts.

Deputy Director Mumtaz Khan informed PHC that EPA is providing training brick-kiln owners at Attock on zigzag technology while as many as 14 proprietors have been trained till to date.

In the meantime, Chief Justice PHC Justice Qaiser Rashid observed that EPA must direct trained proprietors adopt zigzag technology within one month otherwise close brick-kilns.

However, the counsel for brick-kiln owners argued that didn’t possessing zigzag technology and requested that government should take steps in this regard while EPA Mumtaz Khan informed that the technology is available in Pakistan.

Moreover, Chief Justice remarked that owners should purchase zigzag technology and added that government cannot procure the technology for brick-kiln proprietors while PHC ordered EPA to submit report regarding provision of training to owners before court.
