PSX loses 101 points to close at 44,337 points

ISLAMABAD (APP): The KSE 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed bearish trend on Wednesday, losing 101.14 points, with a negative change of 0.23 percent, closing at 44,337.56 points against 44,438.70 points on the last working day.
A total of 344,135,145 shares were traded during the day compared to the trade of 268,911,323 shares the previous day whereas the price of shares stood at Rs7.779 billion against Rs7.174 billion on last trading day.
As many as 354 companies transacted shares in the stock market, 158 of them recorded gain and 169 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 27 companies remained unchanged.
The three top trading companies were K-Electric Ltd with a volume of 38,419,500 shares and price per share of Rs3.11, Ghani Glo Hol with a volume of 31,115,000 and price per share of Rs 16.24 and WorldCall Telecom with volume of 19,941,000 and price per share of Rs1.73.
Rafhan Maize witnessed a maximum increase of Rs500 per share, closing at Rs12,000 whereas the runner up was Nestle PakistanXD, the share prices of which climbed up by Rs90 to Rs5,500.
Otscuka Pak witnessed maximum decrease of Rs19.12 closing at Rs235.88 followed by Packages Ltd, the share price of which declined by Rs14.58 to close at Rs428.27.
Rupee extends losses against dollar
Exchange rate of Pakistan rupee weakened by 31 paisas against the United States dollar in the interbank trading on Wednesday and closed at Rs182.64 against the previous day’s closing of Rs182.33.
According to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of dollar in the open market were recorded at Rs182.5 and Rs183.7 respectively.
Similarly, the price of the euro was appreciated by Rs2.47 and closed at Rs203.18 against the previous day’s closing of Rs200.71.
The Japanese Yen gained 03 paisas to close at Rs1.50, whereas an increase of 62 paisas was witnessed in the exchange rate of British Pound, which was traded at Rs239.67 as compared to its last closing of Rs239.05.
The exchange rates of Emirates Dirham and Saudi Riyal increased by 07 paisas to close at Rs49.72 and Rs48.67 respectively.
Gold prices up by Rs750 to Rs131,000
The price of 24 karat per tola gold witnessed an increase of Rs 750 and was sold at Rs 131,000 on Wednesday against its sale at Rs 130,450 in the local market the previous day.
The price of 10 gram 24 karat gold also increased by Rs643 to Rs 112,483 from Rs111,840 whereas that of 10 gram 22 karat went up to Rs 103,109 from Rs 102,520, All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.
The price of per tola and ten gram silver remained constant at Rs1500 and Rs1286 respectively.
The price of gold in international market increased by $27 and was traded at US$1927 against its sale at US$ 1900, the association reported.
