ISLAMABAD: The senators of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Monday condemned the events of May 9, stating that violence and lawlessness could not be accepted.
The PTI senators including Zeeshan Khanzada, Seemee Ezdi, Zarqa Taimur, Falak Naz, Dr Humayun and Saifullah Niazi talked to the media in Islamabad.
“Pakistan Army is our army. We are ashamed that the defence installations were damaged,” they said.
“I too belong to a military family,” Dr Humayun told the media.
“We strongly condemn the incidents of May 9. My father fought on the Burmese front in World War II. The blood of the martyrs will not go in vain,” she emphasised.
“The events of May 9 should be investigated and the accused should be punished according to the law and Constitution,” she stressed.
“We belong to the Pakistan Army, and the Pakistan Army belongs to us. We regret the events of May 9. Violence and lawlessness can never be accepted,” they declared.
Resolution submitted to Senate
The PTI senators submitted a resolution condemning the events of May 9 to the Senate.
“We strongly condemn the attacks on military and historic buildings,” the text of the resolution read.
“This House strongly condemns the violent attacks on the General Headquarters (GHQ) and Jinnah House on May 9,” it added.
“The corps commander resides in Jinnah House, Lahore. It was also set on fire. The valuable belongings of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah were also burnt,” it condemned.
“The memorials of the martyrs were also burnt. Historic buildings, mosques and schools were set on fire and damaged. This House stands united and extends unwavering support to the institutions,” it added.
The resolution also expressed solidarity with the armed forces, security agencies and the people who had been affected by these incidents.
More PTI leaders desert party
Former PTI MNA from Karachi Aslam Khan has also parted ways with Imran Khan while condemning the May 9 violence.
PTI woman leader Kaneez Fatima also bid adieu to the party and even announced to quit the PTI.
PTI ticket-holder from Narowal Sajjad Mahas also said goodbye to the party.
