Reversal of western legacies

The EU President has informed the media that the community has reached an agreement on reforms designed to share the cost of hosting migrants and refugees and limit the numbers of people coming into the bloc after years of discussion on how to overhaul its outdated asylum rules. Envoys from member countries, the EU parliament, and the European Commission have reached a deal on the core political elements of the Pact on Migration and Asylum. According to the details, the reform includes speedier vetting of irregular arrivals, creation of border detention centres, accelerated deportation for rejected asylum applicants, and a solidarity mechanism to take pressure off southern countries experiencing big inflows of migrants. The proposed accord still needs formal approval by the European Council, representing the 27 member nations, and the European Parliament, before it enters the bloc’s lawbooks, proposedly the next year.

Historically, the European Union, North America, and several other countries have adopted somewhat a liberal immigration regime, including the philosophy of child bird rights, a political asylum for those who face the risk of life, and religious or ethnic discrimination in their native/ country of residence, etc along with the core purpose of attracting brilliant and talented minds from across the globe to come to Europe and play their part in technological development and economic growth of the European Community. The majority of the EU’s immigration laws particularly concerning asylum governed by the Geneva Convention and Common European Asylum System (CEAS) aim to harmonize asylum procedures, and facilitate victims of state oppression, ethnic or religious violence, and discrimination.

Historically, the European Union earned the utmost respect and dignity due to its lax immigration regime, civil liberties, human rights, and assistance to oppressed and disadvantaged communities. However, the EU’s high morals were gradually influenced by its political, economic, and strategic interests, and the EU’s approach largely became selective, one for EU’s partners and allies and the other for unfriendly nations and target regions. Meanwhile, the EU’s asylum policy had been massively used by criminals and crooks around the globe instead of genuine political dissidents, civil activists, and human rights defenders. This is the reason that the butcher of Karachi, and deserter Baloch leaders are enjoying luxurious lives in London and Switzerland but poor Muhajirs and Baloch are fighting with the state on their directions. Even then, the European Community claims it service to humanity. The EU is considering a set of reforms in its immigration laws, hopefully, the new law will bar illegal migration, while genuine travellers and law-abiding settlers will not be hurt by the newest legislation.
