ISLAMABAD: A local court in Islamabad has issued arrest warrants for the parents of Shahnawaz Amir accused of murdering his wife, on Saturday.
Accepting the petition filed by police, the district and sessions court also issued arrest warrants for the father Ayaz Amir and mother of Shahnawaz Amir.
The court also accepted two-day physical remand of Shahnawaz, rejecting police’s plea for a 10-day remand.
When Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan Chishti asked the murder accused when he was arrested, Shahnawaz told the court that he was arrested on Friday morning.
When inquired by the court, the accused’s lawyer said that it was a blind murder and he has no objection to the first remand of the accused.
The judge then asked Shahnawaz: “Do you know you are charged with Section 302?”
The investigator informed the court that the accused brutally murdered his wife. The police investigator told the court “The accused in nominated in the case and they have to make recoveries for which remand should be granted.”
The police officer told the court that the accused called to Pakistan his wife, Sara, who was in Canada and then murdered her.
The accused’s lawyer then interfered arguing that the murder is limited to accusations only.
The police sought arrest warrants for Ayaz Amir and his and also accused Shahnawaz’s uncle and his wife. However, the court issued arrest warrants for Azaz Amir and his wife.
The police also contacted accused’s parents who said they were reaching Islamabad within two days. Father Ayaz Amir told the police that the accused should be investigated on merit and strictly punished as per law.
During interrogation, accused Shahnawaz told the police in preliminary statement that it was an unintentional murder. Police also sent the accused’s mobile phone for forensic analysis.
Earlier, an FIR of the murder of Sara, daughter-in-law of renowned journalist Ayaz Amir, was registered at Islamabad’s Shahzad Town police station on the complaint of the police station’s SHO.
The accused, Shahnawaz Amir, will be produced in a court today (Saturday).
The text of the FIR read, “Shahnawaz and his wife quarreled with each other following which he murdered her by striking her with a dumbbell.”
It was further stated that as soon as Shahnawaz, the suspect, saw police in his home, he locked himself in a room. “And when locks of the room were broken to arrest him, stains of blood were found on his shirt as well as on his hands. Later, Shah Nawaz confessed to have committed the crime. He also took the police to the bathtub where the body of his wife was lying. There were injury marks on her head,” the FIR concluded.
The suspect will be produced in the sessions court today.
