KABUL (Amu tv): Shir Ahmad Haqqani, the Taliban’s former governor of Bamiyan, has been appointed as their minister of information and culture, replacing Khairullah Khairkhwa, who had held the post since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021.
Khairkhwa, meanwhile, has been moved to governor of Maidan Wardak, according to a Taliban statement, which said the reshuffle is based on their leader’s decree.
Shir Ahmad Haqqani is a senior Taliban member who has held key roles in the their administration over the past four years. He previously served as Taliban governor of Nuristan and was appointed Taliban governor of Laghman in early 2024.
According to the decree, Mohammad Bakhtiar Moez, Taliban’s former governor of Maidan Wardak, was appointed as governor of Laghman.
Moreover, Mohammad Hafiz Mujahid, who previously served as deputy commander of the Taliban’s Central Army Corps 313, was appointed as the Taliban’s governor of Farah.
Ghawsuddin Rahbar, the Taliban’s former governor of Farah, was shifted to deputy commander of Corps 313.
Other reassignments included Mohammad Nasim Ezzat as Taliban deputy governor of Jawzjan, Shir Ali Jundallah as Taliban police chief of Paktia, and Abdul Shakur Baryali as Taliban commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade of the 205th Al-Badr Corps.
In addition, Mawlawi Nooruddin was named Taliban commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade of the 209th Al-Fath Corps, and Mohammad Omar Mukhlis was appointed as Taliban chief of Kabul’s 3rd security district.
The reshuffle is part of a broader pattern the Taliban have followed since regaining power in 2021, frequently reassigning their senior officials between ministries, provinces and security units rather than bringing in new figures.
