Shoaib Malik plays down Raja’s advise to retire ahead of World T20

KARACHI (PPI): Seasoned all-rounder Shoaib Malik has asked former Pakistan skipper Ramiz Raja that he, Mohammad Hafeez and Raja should all plan to retire in 2022.

Earlier, the famous commentator Ramiz Raja has asked the seasoned players Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez to retire gracefully ahead of the World T20 Championship later this year.

However, a candid advice from the former skipper didsn’t go well with Shoaib Malik, who has also captained Pakistan in the past.Malik took to social media platform Twitter and asked Ramiz Raja to retire from commentary too with him and Mohammad Hafeez in 2022.

“Yes Ramiz Raja bhai agreed. Since all three of us are at the end of our careers, let’s retire gracefully. I’ll call and let’s plan this for 2022?” Shoaib Malik, apparently tried to respond with tongue in cheek, while also revealing that he has no plan to retire soon.

However, Ramiz Raja said that he has no plans to retire from commenting on cricket and to see Pakistan cricket team performing well. “Retire gracefully from what? Speaking my mind on Pakistan cricket? Sticking my neck out for Pakistan cricket? Wanting Pakistan cricket back at top? No chance. I won’t be gracefully retiring from that ever, Malik Sahib!” Ramiz said.

The aging duo of Malik and Hafeez have been facing pressure as they have not been performing up to the mark and the duo doesn’t have a good track record Down Under, where the World T20 Cup will be held later this year.

Recently, Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis has also supported Ramiz Raja rgument without naming anyone. He said that Pakistan has always performed well in big tournaments with a dominant number of youngsters in the side.
