The Balochistan question

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir has recently promised the people of Balochistan that they will be supported by armed forces and law enforcement agencies for peace and prosperity in the province.

According to him, the success of Balochistan is the success of Pakistan. The people of Pakistan are proud of the brave people of Balochistan who remained steadfast against all odds. Armed Forces of Pakistan and law enforcement agencies will continue to render their services in support of the people of Balochistan for peace and prosperity. During his visit to Awaran, the Army Chief interacted with the local elders, farmers, and families of shahada and assured them of the army’s unstinting support for their security and welfare.

Some Baloch feudal and tribal warlords have waged a war against the state of Pakistan to protect their communal and monetary interests and promote feudalism in their areas. Selfish tribal Sardars played on behalf of foreign powers destroyed the peace of the province, and obstructed development and social work while blaming the government for the poverty and backwardness of the province. Ethnic insurgency has been a persistent issue throughout the past wherein a few tribal leaders and their sprogs have been fighting the government for their vested interests while exploiting the general needs of the masses.

Historically, the common public has suffered from terrorist activities of the miscreants and far-flung areas could not be developed on par with the major population centers in the province.

The Pakistan military has not only sabotaged the nefarious designs of foreign pawns through kinetic Counter Terrorism Operations against Baloch insurgents but also undertaken certain socio-economic development and agriculture projects to help benefit the Baloch public and exploit the full potential of Balochistan. Currently, the government has initiated the Green Pakistan Initiative in the province under which farmers are provided with all kinds of agricultural facilities, including easy agricultural loans, seeds, fertilizers, solar tube wells, and experts’ guidance to elevate the livelihood of the people of Balochistan.

Although, the government and Pakistan Military implemented multiple strategies to establish the writ of the state and revive economic and social activities in the violence-hit regions. However, those endeavors need consistency and the same vigor to eradicate foreign-sponsored rebellion and maintain the pace of socio-economic growth, so that common Baloch live a peaceful and prosperous life.
