This old part of Kabul was named Chahardehi during the reign of Timur Shah Durrani.

Chahardehi of Kabul had the status of a district during the reign of King Mohammad Zahir Shah; later it was annexed to Kabul, but now this historic area has been divided into five zones.

“The people of Chahardehi were very brave and hospitable, and many scholars lived in this place,” said Mohammad Farid, another resident of Chahardehi.

Chahardehi of Kabul has ancient castles with a history of more than two hundred years in its alleys.

Pakhchak Castle is one of the oldest castles in this part of Kabul.

“This castle is more than 120 years old. Six families live here. The name of this castle is such because the person who built it was short in stature,” said Mohammad Ashraf, a resident of Chahardehi.

“It is called Chahardehi because it is made up of four villages; at first, Chahar Qala, Deh Murad Khan, Chahar Asiyab, and the Kampany area were part of it,” Agha Shirin Rasouli, a resident of Chahardehi, said about the naming of the area.

Chahardehi is a sought-after area because of its pleasant climate and lush gardens.
