GILGIT-BALSITAN : Five crewmembers died when a helicopter belonging to Gilgit-Baltistan government crashed in Chilas on Monday.
GB government spokesman Faizullah Faraq said the helicopter carrying two pilots and three technical staffers was crashed in Thor area of Chilas, District Diamir, due to technical failure.
In a statement, Faizullah Faraq confirmed “One of our helicopters has crashed in Thor, Chilas.”
He said district administration and other relevant officials were rushing to the crash site after the GB chief minister directed them to reach there immediately.
Faraq further said Commander FCN, DG Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, commissioner Diamir and a large number of people have already reached the crash site.
Efforts were under to douse the burning helicopter, he added.
Diamer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Hameed, in a statement, said: “Reportedly, 5 x casualties occurred due to the crash.”
The helicopter was conducting a test landing on a newly-proposed helipad, SSP Hameed added. Diamer police and rescue teams had reached the incident site and started evacuation, the officer said.
