Afghanistan exported 1m SQM of carpet last year

KABUL (Agencies): Officials at the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce (ACC) said at the opening ceremony of the “Handmade Carpets Exhibition” which last for three days that they have exported 1 million square meters of Afghan handmade carpets aboard
According to reports, A function held in Kabul on this occasion, officials from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and a number of foreign diplomats and national businessmen attended. At the start of exihibtion, Mohammad Younis Momand, head of the Afghan Chambers of Commerce, said: “Afghanistan’s carpets are the identity of the people of this country and there is no country in the world not having Afghanistan carpets.”
“In 1399, we exported more than 300,000 square meters of carpets, but in 1400, Afghanistan exported about 1,884,495 square meters of carpets.” He added. Momand called on the leadership of the Islamic Emirate to pay serious attention to the problems of Afghan carpet weavers and to support the private sector in the country. He also called on the embassies of China, Russia and a number of other countries to pay attention to the implementation of Afghan business visas and to recognize Afghanistan in order to solve their problems.
He noted that Afghanistan exported more than $1 billion in 1400, which is a positive step in Afghanistan’s self-sufficiency.
Likewise, Shirbaz Kaminzadeh, head of the Afghan Chambers of Mines and Industries, spoke about the role of production in the country’s self-sufficiency and called on producers to pay more attention to improving the country’s economic situation so that Afghanistan becomes an industrial country in the world.
He noted the previous government’s lack of attention to Afghanistan’s industry, saying that in the past 20 years, only 0.042% of the total money has been spent on Afghanistan’s industrial sector, which is about $26 million.
Meanwhile, Inamullah Samangani, Deputy Spokesman of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, spoke about the role of Afghan handicrafts, especially carpets, and said: Afghanistan is the first and most experienced country with human civilization that has a very clear and rich history in the field of production and production tools, especially handicrafts. And has been loaded for several thousand years.
He added that handmade carpet today also plays an important role in the field of handicrafts in Afghanistan and is one of the most important exports of the country, which is about one million people, especially women, are working in this sector.
He assured that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan supports all producers and artisans and will try to provide more facilities for them.
Carpet is one of the ancient industries of Afghanistan, which started about 9,000 years ago with the domestication of animals, especially sheep, and in terms of color and design, more than 500 types of carpets are made throughout the country.
The exhibition will be open to visitors for three days from Monday 21 March 2022 in Najib Zarab carpet’s market.
