F.P. Report

MARDAN: Awami National Party and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf – the two main opposition parties- in the district council Mardan have geared their political contacts and activities to get majority votes to win the up-coming elections for the slot of district nazim scheduled on January 28 of the current month, it has been observed.

The slot of district nazim Mardan was vacated by Himayatullah Mayar when he was given ticket of provincial assembly by Awami National Party to contest last general elections held in July 2018. Later on, Waqar Ahmad Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf was elected as officiating district nazim Mardan after obtaining 57 votes against his rival candidate Muhammad Shafiq belonging to Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazal in the district council meeting presided over by district convener Asad Ali.

As per the local government rules, now elections were scheduled on January 28 for a full-fledge district nazim Mardan. Talking to this correspondent, Himatullah Mayar told that they were in contact with other district councilors belonging to different political parties. He claimed and hoped that ANP would easily get to elect its candidates as district nazim.

Being a big party in the district council Mardan, he claimed that it was right of ANP to elect its district nazim but he blamed that the provincial ruling party of PTI was doing hors-trading to get majority votes for its own candidate which was sheer injustice as well as against the principles of democracy. On the other hand, the incumbent acting district nazim Waqar Khan of PTI while talking to The Frontier Post rejected the said allegations leveled by ANP.

He claimed that PTI was the largest party in district council Mardan which had majority votes in the house. He further said that it was PTI leadership and activists which had brought revolutionary positive changes in politics of the country. He said that they believed in democracy that was why PTI was struggling to boost democratic system in the country. He also claimed that they were going to win the next elections of the slot of district nazim Mardan as they were enjoying majority of votes including coalition partners in the house.
