Brits with red passport could be banned from 70 countries

Brits preparing to jet off on holiday this summer are being warned to check their passports.

That is because those with a red one could be banned from entering some countries. Entry rules for each nation can be different, so it is worth checking before you jet off.

The entry rules to some countries means people could be unable to travel using a red passport, even if they have not yet reached their expiration.

In some countries passports must be valid for another six months after your departure date for international travel, reports the Mirror.

It is a rule which applies to a large number of countries across the world, and often causes problems at an airport terminal. It is easy to forget about the six month rule, when your passport is still valid.

A number of countries also apply a three-month validity rule. That applies to non-EU passengers meaning the passport must be valid for three months after the date you leave the EU – owning an old EU-British passport does not affect this.

VisaGuide.World says there are 70 countries with the six month passport rule, and 41 with the three month rule. All red passports in the UK are due to expire relatively soon, so it is recommended that you check your validity to travel, if you plan on catching some summer sun.

The full list of countries with the six month rule is as follows:

Afghanistan, Indonesia, Samoa, Algeria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Anguilla, Iraq, Singapore, Bahrain, Israel, Solomon Islands, Bhutan, Jordan, Somalia, Botswana, Kenya, Somaliland, British Virgin Islands, Kiribati, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Laos, Sudan, Cambodia, Madagascar, Suriname, Cameroon, Malaysia, Taiwan, Cayman Islands, Marshall Islands, Tanzania, Central African Republic, Micronesia, Thailand, Chad, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Comoros, Namibia, Tokelau, Côte D’Ivoire, Nicaragua, Tonga, Curacao, Nigeria, Tuvalu, Ecuador, Oman, Uganda, Egypt, Palau, United Arab Emirates, El Salvador, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Equatorial Guinea, Philippines, Venezuela, Fiji, Qatar, Vietnam, Gabon, Rwanda, Yemen, Guinea Bissau, Saint Lucia, Zimbabwe, and Guyana.
