PESHAWAR: The Chinese Embassy has announced 100 scholarships for the students of the University of Peshawar (UoP) to boost academic ties between the two countries.
The announcement was made during visit of Chinese delegation led by Cultural Consular Jiang and First Secretary Pan Yuqi to the university on Wednesday.
The delegation met Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan along with Pro-VC and Director China Study Centre Prof. Dr. Zahid Anwar.
These scholarships will be given in the form of annual expenditure stipends to the deserving students.
The both sides agreed to foster cooperation for the upcoming Confucius Centre establishment at the University and Chinese officials pointed out to further extending to other cities from mainstay centre at the university.
VC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif khan asked Chinese officials to extend their technological support to upcoming centre for Mathematical Sciences at the university.
“I think artificial intelligence, computational skills and data based knowledge will be greatly boost by Chinese Universities expertise in the field, VC UoP pointed out. Further, both sides agree to keep a momentum on signed Memorandum of understanding with North Western Universities by UoP to boost further cooperation.
Both sides also agreed to work on joint centre of Earth Sciences, Silk Road Centres promotion and Archaeological museums cooperation.
The Chinese delegation also announced three months training programs for faculty and administrative officers of the University.
Chinese officials also welcomed the China Study Centre role as a focal point for ongoing exchange visits and cooperation.
Later, the Chinese officials visited, SSAQ Museum of Archaeology and ethnology where curator Dr. Zakir Ullah Jan gave them presentation and artifacts briefing.
On the second stretch of their visit, the delegations were given tour of Centre Resource Laboratory where they shown keen interest in the application side of the equipment.
Later, the delegation went to Peshawar Museum along with China’s Window representative Amjad Aziz Malik.
It is pertinent to mention that Chinese embassy has awarded Rs2 million worth scholarships to UoP last year to some 40 students.
