Deputy Secretary Sherman’s Call with ROK First Vice FM Choi

WASHINGTON: Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman spoke today with Republic of Korea (ROK) First Vice Foreign Minister Choi Jong Kun.  Deputy Secretary Sherman and Vice Foreign Minister Choi reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-ROK Alliance as we work to address the global challenges of the 21st Century. 

Deputy Secretary Sherman condemned the DPRK’s recent ballistic missile launches, which were in violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions, and discussed continued joint efforts to achieve the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. 

The Deputy Secretary expressed serious concern about the Burmese military regime’s brutal violence against the people of Burma and the unjust arrest, conviction, and sentencing of Aung San Suu Kyi. 

The Deputy Secretary reiterated the United States’ unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and discussed efforts to deter Russia from further military action or other aggressive acts.
