KABUL: The telecommunication and information technology ministry on Sunday approved the proposal of creating a transparent system for 10 percent collection of telephonic revenue.

According to the ministry, the draft was currently under reconsideration on the demand of the national procurement commission. It would soon be tabled in the commission.

Talking to Afghan Islamic Press (AIP), advisor to telecommunication ministry Khan Zaman Amarkhel said the ministry had prepared a draft for collection of 10 percent telephonic revenue. The tender for purchase of machinery had been presented for auction, he added.

Six companies had submitted documents for purchasing the system, he said. One of these companies had been selected. However, when the company was introduced to procurement commission, it demanded reconsideration of the draft. On the demand of the procurement commission and president, the draft would once again be considered. After reconsideration, he said it would be once again sent to the commission.

The ministry was determined to ensure transparency in collection of 10 percent revenue, he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Wolesi Jirga has rejected the presidential decree regarding collection of 10 percent telephonic revenue. However, the Mesharano Jirga approved the draft. The joint commission of both the houses had not taken any decision in this regard so far.
