Every freedom has a price to pay

Khalid Iqbal

Considering the complexities of human nature, many questions arise in the mind. Everyone is suffering from some confusion; some people are worried about their children’s future, and some children are tired of the restrictions of their parents.

Some people stumble in search of sustenance; others suffer from mental stress. You would not see anyone here who says everything is fine, but there is a market of suspicions and complaints everywhere. Somewhere the shelling of words, some love complaints, some hatred in hearts.

Having many things in my mind, a question that I wanted an answer to in any case. I wandered around a lot in search of the answer and did a lot of thinking, and it was just a failed attempt. One day I went out for a walk to the beach, where I saw a man sitting engrossed in his solitude away from the world’s sorrows. On the one hand, there was the sound of sea waves, while on the other, there was a crowd sitting there, but this man was not paying attention to anyone but rather engrossed in his imaginary world. Seeing him, he is the most failed person in the world because smoking a cigar is not a sign of a noble person. However, human beings have a lot of curiosity, so I also thought to sit with him and discuss.

I sat next and greeted him. He looked at me with his drunken eyes and answered my greeting in a stumpy voice. Seeing his semi-crazy look, I was silent but could not hold myself and started talking to him.

I asked: what are you doing here?

He said: I am doing what the whole world is looking for.

I got surprised by his answer.

I asked: what this world was looking for? (but simultaneously, it occurred to me that it must be planning something and looking for the fish with precious saliva and pearls in its belly).

But his answer and my thinking were as contradictory as East and West.

He said: the whole world is looking for peace.

But the truth is that I did not understand the answer, nor did I think about it, and just started asking the following questions:

I asked: don’t you do any work?

He said: what will happen to work? I said: look, money will come to you.

He asked: what would happen then?

I said: having money, people will consider you a respectable person.

In return, he asked: what would happen then

I said: you will build a good house with all the facilities.

He said: after getting all these things, what will it benefit me?

I said: well, you will be very relaxed.

So, he smiled. Do you believe I am not at peace right now?

I looked at him with surprise but remained silent.

He continued and said: I am very at peace; this beach and this cigar give me as much peace as you get after doing everything as you say, after succeeding in your goal. So you’re not crazy when I’m so quickly relieved that I wear myself out so much that I finally get what I get from smoking a cigar by the sea.

Then I took his permission and started back home, and the question in my mind that I wanted to answer in any case was solved, and I understood that life is about finding peace and freedom from everything. However, time passed, and various events happened in front of me. There were quite organized people, and some were very bold; I do not object to anyone because every human has a unique style, but you are the master of nature. Those who organized got tired in life, but it got its fruits, and those who were bold were also successful up to their limits, but the story does not end here.

Those who were careless were punished for their carelessness and those who performed their work with diligence and dedication got good results of their hard work. There comes a time in my mind that the person sitting on the seashore comes again, but this time, I got the complete answer to my question.

Although that person was at peace with ease, he did not get anything that hard-working people get. He had peace but no respect in society, a prominent name in the family, and no medal-like service to the people. The bus was just a free person; freedom is a great blessing, but you must pay a great price to achieve it. Either you will work hard and get peace and freedom along with social status, family name, and service to humanity, or else you will get freedom and peace like the person sitting on the seashore having nothing among the said stuff. Hence, in all cases, there is a price to be paid; Freedom is not free.
