Ex-PM Abbasi terms arrest of Muqam’s son ‘political victimisation’

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: PML-N leader and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday severely criticised the PTI government over the arrest of PML-N Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) President Amir Muqam’s son over alleged corruption in a road construction project.

Speaking at a press conference alongside other PML-N leaders, including Ahsan Iqbal, he said the Federal Agency Investigation (FIA) arrested Muqam’s son after registering a case against him on Monday, adding it also tried to implicate the PML-N provincial president.

“If this is not political victimisation, then what is it,” he questioned, adding the government is passing the buck for its failure to deliver on its promises and politically victimising opposition politicians.

Questioning the timing of the registration of the case, Abbasi asked why the National Highway Authority (NHA) had not lodged a complaint over the past four years if there was any financial wrongdoing in the project.

He maintained that an error in construction work doesn’t comprise corruption.

Earlier, on May 13, the Anti-Corruption Wing of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested Amir Muqam’s son over alleged financial corruption in a road construction project.

According to FIA, Muqam’s son Ishtiaq is among five contractors arrested upon completion of an inquiry into alleged corruption in construction of Alpuri Road in KP’s Shangla district.
