Fantasize politics versus real issue

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the people are witnessing unprecedented poverty, inflation and unemployment at the current moment. He vowed to implement a 10-point economic agenda for the people if the PPP comes to power in the aftermath of the upcoming general elections. Bilawal announced to provide 300 units free of cost electricity to poor people of the country along with providing free education, and establishing universities meeting international standards. He also vowed to provide free and international standard health facilities to every citizen so people do not go abroad for treatment anymore in the future. Bilawal expressed resolve to provide three million houses to the poor people with ownership rights. According to him, Benazir Kissan Card and Benazir Mazdoor Card will be introduced to provide rights and offer financial assistance to growers and labourers.

As the election season began, the election campaign of political parties and their candidates is currently in full swing. The contesting parties and leaders are in efforts to leave behind their competitors in the race to attract the public’s sympathies by tactful use of people’s weak aspects including rising inflation, ever growing cost of living and no availability of daily use items. The slogans of free of cost electricity, free education, free healthcare, construction of homes for the poor along with other incentives including the provision of Insaaf cards, Benazir Card, and Nawaz Cards are being used to entrap voters until the election season is over. The same strategy is being used by all civic groups including the PTI, the PPP, the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, PML-Q, while other political groups use racial, ethnic or religion cards to attract voters and grab votes of the public.

Interestingly, every other leader vowed to distribute government funds among the public and is determined to provide costly electricity to the public on a throw away basis but no one has a plan to support the deteriorating national economy while putting it on the upward trajectory. A logical path for providing a long term sustainable financial relief to the public. In fact, such kind of politics neither serves public interests nor brings in any reasonable solution by any competing groups for betterment and welfare of the masses. It is high time that political parties and leaders shed off from using fake and counterproductive strategies to attract voters instead adopt an applicable and fact based manifesto that supports national interests, fulfil public needs and brings in a healthy competition in the country.
