LASHKARGAH: Afghan security forces freed five hostages from Taliban captivity in southern Helmand province, officials said Monday.

Backed by air support, Commando troops raided a Taliban jail in the Nahr-e-Siraj area of Greshk district, freeing five people, said Omar Zwak, spokesman of Helmand governor.

He told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) seven Taliban gunmen were killed and four suspects were detained by the security forces during the operation.

Omar Zwak did not disclose identity of the released people.

A press release issued by Helmand governor’s media office, meanwhile, said the security forces also recovered three cars, four motorcycles, two wireless sets and small and heavy weapons.

There was no word by Taliban in this regard.
