GHAZNI CITY: The governor of southern Ghazni province on Tuesday promised his administration would launch development projects and improve security in areas that had been ignored in the past.
Abdul Karim Matin held out the commitment at a press conference in Ghazni City, the provincial capital. On the other hand, residents complain of serious security problems.Roohullah, a tribal elder from Maqur district, told Pajhwok Afghan News no development projects had been implemented in his area.
Although the security situation was not bad in the district, he alleged, Maqur had not received ample government attention.
“Eighty percent of this district is under government control, but no projects have been executed here. We don’t have a single modern hospital, roads or bridges built by the government,” he lamented.
Rahmatullah, hailing from Gilan district, said the people were faced with a whole host of problems, including insecurity.”People here have no access to health services, most of schools have no buildings and hesecurity situation is deteriorating.”
The government had paid somewhat attention to the development of only Malistan, Nahur, Khwaja Omari and Jaghoori districts over the last 16 years, he added.
Shamsuddin, a resident of Khogyani district, also said they were caught in a serious security situation.”The situation is very bad and there are many other problems as well. Why will the people cooperate with the government?”
He said residents of Qarabagh, Aab Band, Giro, Deh Yak, Rashidan, Zanakhan, Ajristan, Andar and Waghaz were still yearning for the most elemental facilities.
Other residents held similar views and warned if serious attention was not paid to resolving their problems, the gap between them and the government would widen and people would ultimately join the militants.
On the other hand, GovernorMatin pledged the local administration would work for the improvement of security and launch development projects in areas that were ignored in the past.
He did not name the areas but said he had shared the problems of less developed localities with relevant ministries. The officials concerned had promised taking positive action, he added.
Provincial security officials say except Nahur, Khwaja Omari, Malistan and Jaghori, all other 15 districts of Ghazni are under high security threat.
