Girls continue to call for access to schools

KABUL (TOLOnews): With the 1403 academic year starting in two days, there is still no news of the reopening of secondary and high schools for girls in the country.
Some girls above the sixth grade asked the Islamic Emirate to reopen girls schools in the new academic year.
Mozhgan hopes to go to school in the new academic year.
“We hope that a decision will be made and the girls of this land will come out of this uncertain future they are facing,” she told TOLOnews.
“My request of the Islamic Emirate is to reopen the schools for us and allow us to be educated and study,” said Maryam, a student who should be in the eleventh grade.
So far, the final decision of the Islamic Emirate regarding the reopening of schools for girls above the sixth grade has not been clarified.
“An illiterate mother cannot offer a better child to society, so these restrictions have a direct impact on the security of the whole country in the future,” said Sona Shirzai, a women’s rights activist.
Yesterday, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai also asked the Islamic Emirate to reopen the schools and universities for women and girls in the new academic year.
