Government and public efforts against Coronavirus pandemic are unsatisfactory: PIMA

ISLAMABAD: Government and Public efforts against Coronavirus Pandemic are unsatisfactory, however, Coronavirus Vaccine is the only source to prevent the pandemic Upsurge in the country.

It was observed by the Dr. Shabir Ahmed Gullu, President of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) Punjab along with Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Burni and Dr. Shahid Pervaiz Ansari during a media interaction in Islamabad on Friday.

PIMA leaders urged the government to increase the production of the oxygen and take measures to control theft of the vaccine from government’s facilities and impose ban on private import of coronavirus vaccine in the country to curb its black marketing and hoarding.

Dr. Shabir Gullu said that coronavirus pandemic is spreading across the country at highest space and hit a significant portion of our population but government and public response to growing pandemic is unsatisfactory. Violations of SOPs are common and resulting in growing number of positive cases and death ratio over the last two weeks.

Minor punishments by the government remained failed to compel the public to follow the government’s advisory regarding coronavirus pandemic. PIMA leaders informed the media men that due to careless behavior of the public the pandemic cases are at upward trajectory.

Dr. Iftikhar Burni said that presently, about one percent of the population of the country had got corona vaccine shot so far which are very nominal and disappointing numbers.

He thanked the government for restart of coronavirus vaccination registration of health workers in the country.

He noted that due to government contract with private sector the prices of coronavirus vaccine are higher in the country, which led to its inaccessibility to the general masses.

While commenting on the shortage of oxygen in the country, Dr. Ansari said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the availability of the oxygen in the country.

According to Dr. Ansari the government must accelerate its vaccination drive and abolish the restriction of age limit and open it up for all age groups across the country to meet the challenge in a proactive manner.
