Govt to move 26 constitutional amendment on open ballot poll for Senate poll

ISLAMABAD: PTI Government is heading to move 26 constitutional amendment on open ballot poll in forth coming senate election in coming days. It was underscored by SAPM on Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Babar Awan along with Federal Minister for Information and Broadcast Senator Shibli Faraz in a news conference in Islamabad today.

Zoom into: – Dr. Awan said that Government will introduce this new constitutional amendment, which consist of three basic changes regarding Senate Election. The amendment will be called 26 Constitutional amendment.

Detail: – Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs said the Prime Minister Imran Khan aim at achieving transparency and halting horse trading in the senate election. Prime Minister is ready to pay any price of it, if it comes in the shape of PTI minority in the upper house. Those changes include change Article 59- Claus-2 calling for open ballot instead of transferable vote. The second change will be in Article-63, clause-1, Para- c, consent the permission to overseas Pakistanis to contest election being dual national but they must renounce second nationality before taking oath after wining the election.  The 3rd change will be in Article-226, referring the change to the Senate election. 

Credit Securing: – The government Ministers claimed the credit for representing overseas Pakistanis and securing their interests in the country. According to them, PTI government has fulfil the longstanding desire of Overseas Pakistanis by this amendment but it went a step ahead and made ground for their participation in election rather than simply right to vote. 

While answering the question, Dr. Babar said that it is not an effort for political scoring but a test for opposition parties, who generally talk about transparency in the election but act oppositely. During voting in the parliament all such parties will be exposed in front of the public by their decision. Hint to Intent: – While answering the question of the journalists on the eve, Dr. Babar Awan said that if the amendment got ok from the parliament than many overseas Pakistanis representing different political parties of the country will be able to contest the upcoming Senate Election.
