Hearing underway: Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar in court to face corruption references

ISLAMABAD: Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law MNA Safdar arrived at the accountability court to hear a corruption cases against them.

Khawaja Harris counsel of Nawaz Sharif seeking to club the three references as per directives of Supreme Court and the regular proceedings will resume once the request is settled.

On November 3, accountability court Judge Muhammad Bashir adjourned proceedings in the light of Islamabad High Court’s order directing the accountability to club the three references into one.

Nawaz Sharif along with Hussaina, Hasan, Maryam and Safdar, face corruption charges in the Avenfield properties case.

Moreover, Nawaz has been accused in two other references alongside his sons: Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment Limited.

Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar have been indicted in the cases whereas Nawaz’s sons have yet to appear before the court and will soon be declared proclaimed offenders.

Several cabinet members and leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz are at the court complex in support of Nawaz Sharif.
