IDP families assisted in Nangarhar, Panjshir

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): War-displaced families in eastern Nangarhar province have received cash and kitchen accessories in aid, officials said.

Nangarhar refugee and repatriation director Ghulam Haidar Faqeeri told Pajhwok Afghan News the assistance was distributed based on a survey conducted in the Khogyani district.

He said about 460 displaced families received around one million afghanis in cash and 300 kitchen equipment. Each family received 18,000afs in cash provided by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) non-governmental organization in Chamtali Township.

Faqeeri said about 83 families were given kitchen items, blankets and tents with financial support of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). While 75 other households were delivered various aids ahead of the fast-approaching winter season.

Some 2,500 families have been uprooted as a result of fresh conflict between Daesh and Taliban militants in Khogyani district.

In central Panjshir province, 211 families were assisted, with each family pocketing $200 in cash and taking home four blankets and winter cloths.

The internally displaced persons (IDPs) belong to Laghman, Baghlan, Nuristan, Takhar, Badakhshan, Kunduz and Balkh provinces.
