IHC shows displeasure over Army’s role in agreement with Islamabad protestors

ISLAMABAD: Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of Islamabad High Court expressed his displeasure over the Pak Army role in agreement between the protestors of Faizabad and federal government.

This he said while resuming the hearing of a case regarding the amendment in a clause of Election Act 2017. The court criticized the Interior Minister, Ahsan Iqbal for signing an agreement with the religious group after calling him on 15 minutes notice.

Justice Siddiqui asked from why the Army chief take a role of guarantor in the agreement and in what capacity he became a guarantor.

He added that some Army officers are trying to interfering in the politics, they need to quit the army and practically join the politics as per their wishes but in service they need to restrict to their boundaries.

Justice Shaukat Siddiqui also questioned that why the establishment was trying to be hero in the Islamabad situation while he referring to army officer, Faiz Hameed who also signed the agreement as an authority.

The Army should remain to its boundaries as it is define in constitution and adding that army Officer Faiz Hameed could not reasonable the agreement as he is the officer of army, court remarked.

The court also sought a detailed report from the interior ministry regarding the reasons for the failure of the operation.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal stated that there was a danger of civil war across the country and so the agreement was inked with the consent of national leadership and he assured the court that the sit-in will end today.
