Illegal appointments case: Court grants 2-day physical remand of Elahi

F.P. Report

LAHORE: A local court in Lahore has remanded former Punjab chief minister and PTI Central President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in police custody for two days.

The former Punjab chief minister was presented before the court of Judicial Magistrate Imran Abid on Saturday in the illegal appointments in Punjab Assembly case.

The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) sought 12-day physical remand of Elahi in the case. However, the magistrate granted only two-day physical remand of the PTI leader.

The judicial magistrate announced the decision reserved earlier.

During the case proceedings, Elahi’s lawyer Amir Saeed Ran objected to the prosecution’s plea saying why they needed physical remand. He wondered whether the prosecution wanted to recover money. “The people who have been accused of giving bribe, most of them have left the jobs. How it’s possible that if a candidate offers Rs3 million in bribe and he will leave job,” the lawyer argued adding that in the first physical remand plea by the ACE, only the allegation of fraud was levelled.

Elahi’s lawyer denied the charges of bribe. He said that the ACE claimed that it recovered Rs4.1 million from the house of Pervaiz Elahi but it’s a lie because the ACE team never went to Elahi’s house.
