India, WFP signs MoU to distribute food grains in Afghanistan

KABUL (Khaama Press): The Indian embassy in the Italian capital Rome said that the Indian government has signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations World Food Program based on which the both will distribute food grains inside Afghanistan.
The agreement comes days after India supplied three tonnes of medicines as part of its fourth batch of medical assistance to Afghanistan. “As part of our humanitarian assistance, India supplied the fourth batch of medical assistance consisting of 3 tonnes of essential life-saving medicines to Afghanistan. The same was handed over to the Indira Gandi Hospital in Kabul.” Said Ministry of External Affairs.
The Ministry further said that the Indian government is committed to helping the vulnerable people of Afghanistan by providing humanitarian aid. It also added that India will provide further batches of humanitarian assistance consisting of medicines and food grains to the Afghan people. 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines and 50,000 tonnes of wheat are the most important supplies allocated to Afghanistan by India the latter of which have yet to have arrived in the country.
